Fire Saftey

This project is best for Pre-K

Teaching children about fire safety is very important. After reading the children a story about firefighters and fire safety you can do this activity with them. In this activity the children will be making their own picture of a fire truck. Higher level students may be able to do it on their own with a model provided. For the lower level students it is best to work with a few children at a time. With the small groups it is important to ask them where they think each part goes for the fire truck. It is also important to give them one object at a time so they do not become overwhelmed. At each step of making the fire truck it is also important to integrate shapes and colors. Ask them “What shape is this?”, and “What color is it?”

Materials Needed:
Sharpie
Black Sharpie
Glue
Scissors
Crayons
Black construction paper
Red construction paper
Blue construction paper (or the color you choose for the background)
A model of the finished product for the students to see

Have all materials cut out and ready to use. First you have the children put the two red rectangles on the paper to form the body of the truck. Next you have the children put the four black wheels on. After the wheels they can put the two long black strips on to form the ladder. After that they can use the little black stripes to form the steps on the ladder. After all the pieces are glued down then they can use the crayons to draw themselves in the fire truck. Now they are done. Write their names on it and hang them up!
