Dream Catcher

Overview:

This craft was done with a third grade class. This activity can be done at home with a parent or in a classroom. Teachers could use this craft when teaching students about native Americans and their creation of dream catchers. Teach students a lesson on dream catchers and their purpose and have them hang them in their rooms.

Materials:

  • Paper Plate
  • Yarn
  • Beads
  • Feathers
  • Hole Puncher

Prep: Have the holes punched out for your students before you hand them out.

Step One: Have students color and decorate the dream catcher. We chose to use paint but crayons, markers, and colored pencils work just fine.

Step Two: Have the students thread the yearn through the holes. Make sure they do continue to criss-cross the yarn to make the design. Once they are done with their design, tape the yarn to the back of the paper plate to secure it.

Step Three: Have students thread the yarn through the three holes at the bottom of the plate. Have them decorate the yarn with different beads and finish it off with feathers. The feathers could be taped to the string.
