Zebra/ Lego Cake

Overview:
This craft/ yummy food combination was performed with two 9 year-old's and one 6 year old. Besides it being a blast to do, it is also something yummy to eat afterwards. The kids thoroughly enjoyed making the cake. This craft can be done anywhere that has a stove. (Preferably a kitchen) Although it does require patience and lots of cleaning up to do, it was very fun to say the least!

Materials:

  1. 1 box of vanilla cake mix
  2. 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  3. Eggs
  4. Vegetable Oil
  5. Water
  6. Spoons
  7. Food dye
  8. Marshmallows
  9. White icing
  10. 13x9 cake pan

Steps:
  1. Make the two cake mixes (Vanilla & Chocolate) in separate bowls.
  2. Preheat your oven to temperature stated on the box
  3. Spray down the 13x9 sheet with a non-stick spray.
  4. Start plopping the mixes into the cookie sheet one flavor at a time. Drop the mix into the middle of the sheet and keep adding from the middle, alternating flavors each time. (You will notice it beginning to create a spiral effect)
  5. Once both cake mixes are evenly distributed and you have the spiral (Zebra) effect place the cake into bake.
  6. While the cakes are baking, start to prepare the icing by adding in the desired color food dye to make your Lego color.
  7. Take the marshmallows and cut them in half and dip them in the colored icing; set them aside for later.
  8. When the cake is done baking, set it out to cool.
  9. Once the cake is cool, ice the cake with the food dye icing of choice.
  10. Paste the half cut, iced marshmallows on top.
  11. Vaw-lah ! You have a zebra Lego cake!
